Hành tây bóc vỏ, cắt khoanh rồi cho vào tô, ngâm cùng giấm trong khoảng 15 phút cho bớt hăng.
Cho gà vào nồi luộc, cho gừng đập dập vào cho thơm. Luộc khoảng 20 đến 25 phút thì gà chín.
